Prato do dia

A fantastic cooking show with Viriato, contestant of the first edition of Portugal’s MasterChef.
Prato do Dia is the typical cooking show: one leading character in one kitchen, where he prepares recipes with healthy and inexpensive ingredients. However, the leading character in the show is not a professional Chef but an aspiring cook with profound knowledge of cooking and everyday difficulties at a normal household. In this way the viewers will feel a connection with the cook/host and will not feel left aside by complex techniques or exotic ingredients that are hard to find. Everything will be demystified. This kitchen is led by Viriato, one of the competitors from the first edition of MasterChef in Portugal. He was born in Guinea-Bissau but he has travelled the world studying, working, cooking and eating. He currently lives in Lisbon with his wife and his three children. He calls himself a man of the world, used to cooking everything, and now he is also an expert on cooking for the demanding fans in his family. In each episode, our host will cook two to three dishes (depending on how complex they are), in 26 minutes, in a pragmatic and simple language, explaining the best way to prepare each ingredient. In each recipe there is a way to impress friends and family. In the end of each episode, even the worst cook will feel capable to take his chances in the kitchen! SPECIAL SHOWS This is the base format of the show, however there are 11 special episodes, with guests that will cook with the host. With a chef from an Indian restaurant, Viriato learned and shared typical recipes from this country. A pizzaiolo taught his best tricks for making a good pizza. A nutritionist gave some tips for a healthy meal and a guest from Chile shared the best vegetarian dishes, very common in South-American cooking. A mother with a passion for food shared her tips for a children’s menu, very practical for kids’ birthday parties. For a more refined dish, the owner of a gourmet supermarket introduced some simple ingredients for a more risky meal. A businessman in love with cooking shared everything he knows about picnics, an activity he turned into a business opportunity, preparing picnics with light and original meals. From Beirut, Viriato welcomed a guest from Lebanon to teach him the most traditional dishes in this region, and from Mexico he greeted another guest with a passion for food who shared everything she knows about her country’s gastronomy. From the north of Portugal, a guest from Trás-os-Montes revealed all the wonderful dishes from this region, and there was also time for one of the best fish sellers in the country, who taught how to prepare the best fish ever.
