• For the values it transmits, the dissemination of the country’s gastronomy and its success in terms of audience ratings

Shine Iberia (a Banijay company) is in luck. After being recognised for the second time in less than a decade with the Ondas 2020 award for best TV entertainment programme and before premiering the ninth edition of MasterChef, the Vitoria-Gasteiz Television Festival (the first exclusive television festival and the most prestigious in the country) has awarded the format with the ‘Joan Ramón Mainat 2021’ prize as a professional tribute to the programme.

MasterChef experienced one of the best years in its history in 2020: with MasterChef 8, it signed its most watched edition, it also successfully premiered new seasons of MasterChef Celebrity (5) and MasterChef Junior (8), and it became the first MasterChef in the world to broadcast a special edition dedicated to Grandparents. In addition, one of its winners, the winner of the third edition Carlos Maldonado, became the first former MasterChef contestant to achieve a Michelin star with his own restaurant (‘Raíces’).

With this prestigious award, FesTVal wanted to highlight the values transmitted by the programme, its defence and dissemination of Spanish gastronomy, as well as its success with TV audience.
