What happens when your privacy no longer belongs to you? How do you regain control of your own life? Is it possible to preserve your dignity in the face of fear and public humiliation? These are some of the questions explored in ‘Cabeza Alta’, the adaptation of the successful Italian series ‘A testa alta: Il coraggio di una donna’, which Shine Iberia (Banijay Iberia) is preparing for Mediaset España. Filming is set to begin in Madrid in the coming weeks.
This two-part miniseries stars Leonor Watling, Paz Vega and Tomás del Estal, alongside Silvia Abascal, Lucía Jiménez, Juan Carlos Vellido, Daniel Ortiz, Almagro San Miguel and Lola Alterio, among others.
Directed by Belén Macías and written by Virginia Yagüe, with Macarena Rey, Pablo Alejos and Jorge Redondo serving as executive producers, ‘Cabeza Alta’ is an emotional thriller that tackles digital abuse, sexual blackmail and public shaming on social media, while also exploring themes such as abuse of power, corruption and the capacity to endure adversity.
The original Italian production, created by Banijay Studios Italy and RTI (Reti Televisive Italiane), became one of Italy’s biggest television successes of the season following its prime-time broadcast on Canale 5 earlier this year.
A public downfall with unpredictable consequences
Verónica (Leonor Watling) is a respected school headteacher who has devoted her life to protecting and educating young people. Admired by her educational community and the driving force behind an innovative social project aimed at tackling digital addiction among teenagers, she appears to be experiencing the most important moment of her career. However, her life changes dramatically when an intimate video of her, recorded without her consent, goes viral overnight.
What begins as a personal scandal soon turns into a nightmare that threatens to destroy every aspect of her life, including her marriage to Luis (Tomás del Estal). As she struggles to cope with the impact on her family, her surroundings and her reputation, Verónica sets out to discover who is behind the leak.
With the help of Cecilia (Paz Vega), her sister and a sergeant in the Guardia Civil, she launches an investigation that leads her into a network of hidden political, economic and personal interests. As new threats, blackmail, assaults and even deaths emerge, Verónica realises she was not targeted at random and that the attempt to destroy her personal and professional reputation was part of a carefully planned operation.
