‘Maestros de la Costura Celebrity’, the celebrity version of the talent show produced by RTVE in collaboration with Shine Iberia (Banijay Iberia), starts a new phase with the addition of a new member to the jury: the young fashion designer Luis De Javier. The Barcelona-born designer will join Lorenzo Caprile and María Escoté as the third jury member, replacing Alejandro Gómez Palomo. Presenter Raquel Sánchez Silva will remain at the helm of the show, which will return to La 1 with 12 new contestants and important new features.
At just 29 years old, Luis De Javier has become an international reference, respected and sought after by major figures in music and entertainment. According to experts, he is the new “enfant terrible of Spanish fashion”. His aesthetic, which challenges norms and celebrates diversity, has captivated national and international artists such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, Rosalía, Doja Cat, Julia Fox, Kim Kardashian and Lady Gaga, thanks to his spectacular designs that evoke freedom, identity and transgression.“I’m very happy to be part of the new edition of Maestros de la Costura Celebrity. For me, it’s a dream come true to become one of the judges on the programme. I’ve followed Maestros since the beginning, when I was still studying fashion and already wanted to become a designer,” he said.
Meanwhile, Macarena Rey, executive producer of ‘Maestros de la Costura’, added:
“We feel very fortunate to add the huge talent of Luis De Javier to Maestros de la Costura. He is the great promise of Spanish fashion and already a very important name on the international scene. We’re starting a very exciting new stage that follows seven wonderful seasons in which we’ve shared television, fashion and life with Alejandro G. Palomo, to whom we wish the best in his new endeavours.”
A designer who dresses attitudes
Luis De Javier (Sitges, 1996) is one of the most prominent emerging fashion designers on both the national and international scenes. His training in Barcelona marked the beginning of a career enriched by international experience and time spent at prestigious fashion houses such as Vivienne Westwood and Gareth Pugh.
In 2020, he founded his own luxury fashion brand, Luis De Javier Studio, known for fusing Spanish cultural heritage with bold, avant-garde creations. After living and working in London, Los Angeles and Paris, he is now based in Barcelona, with the aim of expanding his brand and contributing to the visibility of young Spanish talent. He also actively supports and collaborates with the Spanish artisan sector.
In 2023, photographer Steven Klein and stylist Patty Wilson collaborated with Luis on his New York fashion show. Designer Riccardo Tisci is his mentor. De Javier has established himself as a reference in fashion that celebrates inclusion and gender fluidity. His collections blend the influences of the British queer underground scene with Spain’s rich cultural and artisanal heritage. The result is a unique, provocative, elegant and contemporary style.
His work resonates strongly with younger generations and the values shaping today’s global fashion discourse: inclusion, sustainability and authenticity. Each of his pieces is a manifesto of individuality and a break from the conventional. For this reason, Luis De Javier doesn’t just dress bodies — he dresses attitudes.
Beyond the catwalks of Paris, New York and Los Angeles, where he has presented his collections, Luis De Javier has been featured in major publications such as Vogue, WWD, Dazed and PAPER Magazine. His creative universe has won over numerous celebrities who have worn his designs.
Rosalía, an icon of bold and disruptive style, wore his iconic black 3D-printed Toro corset on the cover of her album Motomami, from his Spring/Summer 2021 collection. Shortly after, Beyoncé wore one of his bull-inspired corsets in the artwork for her album Renaissance. Kim Kardashian also posed in one of them.
Another loyal fan is Lady Gaga, who has worn several of his creations — from the custom-made red fur coat featured in her Fat Juicy & Wet music video, to the white lace bodysuit with pagoda shoulders (Spring/Summer 2025 collection) used in Vanity Fair’s lie detector video — and even a spectacular headpiece designed in collaboration with Valencian milliner Betto García for her Saturday Night Live appearance while promoting her album Mayhem.
Additionally, in the music video for Born Again, Lalisa and Doja Cat wear his designs, reaffirming his presence on the global music scene.
