Kangaroo meat, snail caviar, beetle larva, electric flower or buddha hand. Five years have passed since the doors of MasterChef opened its doors and all kinds of food have passed through its supermarket. The culinary talent produced by TVE in collaboration with Shine Iberia is in luck, because next Tuesday, September 17, celebrates its 100th program.

In this time Pepe Rodríguez Rey, Samantha Vallejo-Nágera and Jordi Cruz have tasted incredible dishes and the odd “marranada” that more than one applicant served to put the batteries. Some dishes have been kept forever in the memory of the public, such as the reinterpretation of Carlos Maldonado’s calamari sandwich, Miguel Ángel Muñoz’s cocido madrileño, Aimar’s punk teddy bear, Jefferson’s fish and chips, Miri’s timbales, the impressive Virginia Troconis croquembouche and of course the lion eats prawn. Difficult to highlight only one when the jury has tasted more than 3,000 different elaborations of the 158 aspirants of MasterChef, MasterChef Junior and MasterChef Celebrity. In addition, aspirants have learned to cook all kinds of dishes, taking into account special diets and intolerances.

They have crowned El Teide more than 3,500 meters high, served the menu of the passengers of an Airbus A 330, have worked on a cruise in the Mediterranean and have crossed our borders on many occasions. The jury and the presenter Eva González have had to pack around a hundred times to travel around Spain in search of the best recipes in the country. In total, they have covered more than 80,000 kilometers, which would be equivalent to going around the world twice.

The program has had the honor of having the best national and international chefs such as the French Joël Robuchon, the chef with more Michelin stars in the world with 31, or Ferrán Adrià, who said in an interview that “MasterChef does more for the cook that one hundred Ferrán Adrià “. Martín Berasategui, the Roca brothers, Carme Ruscalleda, Pedro Subijana, Juan Mari Arzak, Dabiz Muñoz, Quique Dacosta, Eneko Atxa and almost 300 more Michelin stars have been part of MasterChef’s firmament.

The culinary talent with its tests has paid tribute to the most needy, to the sanitary equipment of several hospitals, to the main national producers, to the main national architects, to the Spaniards who reside outside our country, to culture, art, sports, fashion, architecture and especially gastronomy. The aspirants have filtered into the kitchens of restaurants with Michelin stars, in the best hotels, in the rehearsals of singers of the stature of Miguel Bosé or Alejandro Sanz and even in some embassy, such as that of Italy or the United States. And since there are no easy challenges at MasterChef, they have taken care of the menu at three weddings, one of them the winner of the third edition, Carlos Maldonado.

More than 8,000 guests have sat at the MasterChef table and among them stand out the actors Lola Herrera, Terele Pávez, Paco León, Ana Duato, Javier Cámara and Leonor Watling; the singers Rosario and Lolita Flores, José Mercé, Antonio Orozco, Manuel Carrasco, Diana Navarro and Ainhoa Arteta; the tennis players Manolo Santana, Conchita Martínez and Feliciano López, the pilots Ángel Nieto and Álex Márquez, the deca windsurf champion Gisela Pulido, the olympic team of rhythmic gymnastics and a long list of celebrities.

Throughout these years, MasterChef has gained the support of the public, the critics and the industry. The culinary talent has the Ondas Award for the Best Entertainment Program, the Iris of the Jury of the TV Academy, the Critics Award of FesTVal, the Zapping Prize (two consecutive years), the ATR Prize and the National Gastronomy Award, among other acknowledgments.
