16 May 2025. – Spanish adolescents spend, on average, around four hours a day in front of screens outside the school environment[1]. While many parents believe that their children are only enjoying harmless dance videos, communicating with friends, playing games or having fun in a safe environment, the reality is that many teenagers are victims of the misuse of the internet, video games and social networks. Anxiety, depression, eating disorders, obsession with cosmetic surgery, addictions, abuse and even suicidal thoughts are some of the serious consequences that the new generations can suffer due to this uncontrolled consumption. On the occasion of Internet Day and coinciding with the premiere of the series “Generación Click” on Movistar Plus+, the documentary series “Generación Click”, produced by Shine Iberia and ETB, was presented this week at the Espacio Fundación Telefónica in Madrid (Calle Fuencarral, 3) to analyse the real impact that a world dominated by screens has on teenagers. Creators, protagonists and experts who have participated in the series have met with the attendees who have come to the event – also broadcast live via streaming – to address the consequences of excessive use of mobile phones and social networks in adolescents. Oiane Sagasti, director of the format; José Luis Martínez, family interventionist in addictions; Javier Quintero, psychiatrist specialising in Childhood and Adolescence; and María Zabala, journalist and expert in digital education and collaborator of Movistar’s Movimiento Azul, who moderated the round table, took part in this colloquium. During the discussion, the speakers shared key reflections on the impact of technology on adolescents and the social relevance of Generación Click.
